GSM Roofing began operations in 2021, headed by Leveshan Govender, son of the founding director, the company has rapidly grown from their single factory in Mkondeni, to one of the leading roof sheet manufacturers in KZN, operating now from three different retail stores throughout Pietermaritzburg and their growing factory operation in Mkondeni. GSM’s vision was set out to give the public access to affordable roofing materials by buying directly from the manufacturer, this has been made possible through GSM’s four conveniently located branches, namely: 18 Shortts Retreat Road in Mkondeni, 95 Victoria Road, 29 Boshoff Street in Pietermaritzburg’s CBD, and at 190 Ohrtmann Road in Willowton.
Investment in advanced roofing machinery and equipment
The company’s investment in advanced roofing machinery and equipment, as well as a highly experienced and professional workforce, has enabled them to produce thousands of meters of high-quality roof sheets per day at an extremely cost-effective rate. PRODUCTION QUALITY AT OUR ROOFING DIVISION IS ASSURED by our roofing production manager, Yugan Reddy. Mr Reddy’s 30 years of meticulous engineering practice and experience allows GSM Roofing to operate efficiently and effectively.
The group continues to expand their operations, with a new widespan machine recently added to their line, to provide for the consumers who require the line for large industrial complexes throughout South Africa.
What we do
GSM manufactures a wide range of Chromadek, AluZinc and galvanized roof sheeting, in Widespan, IBR and corrugated profiles. They also manufacture a wide range of lip channels at their roofing plant in Mkondeni. This allows them to cater to all needs of the public, by supplying roofing for carports, awnings, residential and industrial complexes throughout South Africa.
Their new modern showroom space at 190 Ohrtmann Road and 95 Victoria Road stock a wide range of pre-cut roof sheets, as well as the factory over runs at discounted prices. The new stores also stock a range of carport material, including tubing, angles, flashing and ridging.

GSM is committed to assisting our downstream steel fabricators with lower steel prices to ensure their sustainability. We work tirelessly to source new steel in bulk quantities at the lowest price to ensure that even small fabricators can purchase new steel at reduced prices.

Our History
Global scrap metals, founded on the pillars of exceptional recycling service, 8 years ago trading as LTV Metal Recycling at 65 Pine St, this family-owned operation has rapidly grown to become one of the biggest scrap metal processors in Pietermaritzburg operating several branches in Pietermaritzburg and employing 60 skilled staff. We are fully geared to service the construction and fabrication industry with the recycling of their redundant steel items. Our close working relationship with local Steel foundries and Steel Mills has led to the opening of our New Steel Division “GSM Roofing” allowing Global to complete the recycling chain by supplying our clients New Steel and recycling their redundant metal.
Construction background:
The founding Director of the Global Group, Yugan Govender has a long history in the construction industry beginning with a Quantity Surveying and construction qualification way back in 1988. He started Magicone Construction in 2004 and has completed several large homes in Victoria Country Club Estate, Eshowe Hills Country Club as well as commercial projects for MASS STORES. The bold, energetic, and creative passion for both construction and steel has led to the opening of GSM ROOFING
